I have just returned from the NGH conference in the Boston area where I felt a sense of urgency from many of my fellow presenters. An urgent need to get new information out to everyone about the brain. One Alzheimer researcher said we are about to see a tsunami of new cases. I listened to presentations about the rise is the drug and alcohol abuse and others about how obesity affects the brain.
Wandering around historical sites in the Boston area I searched for what made our ancestors so much stronger mentally than we are? If we are going to thrive or maybe survive it is urgent that we become more resilient.
On my trip home I received a call from a friend that had just lost two of her children to suicide. These young adults in their 30’s were funny, smart and loving. You would never have suspected they would end their lives but I believe that suicide is also a sign of our modern reality. According to the CDC suicide is now the 10th cause of death in the USA , 42,773 or 117 people everyday kill themselves. The largest population is found in the white race. White men are almost 4 times more likely than white woman to commit suicide. The most vulnerable age is 85+ but 45-64 year olds are quickly closing in on the elderly. We think of suicide as a sudden act and while that is true many people are committing a slow suicide by killing themselves slowly.
I don’t have the answers to all the questions that were created in my mind in these last two weeks but I feel an urgent need to share what I have learned about being resilient. I hope you will join me in classes. There is the certification class that will help you help others learn to direct their mind as you strengthen your own. But their will be other classes hopefully some on-line to make all of us more resilient. You will be hearing from the Resilient Tutors a small group of hypnotists that I think are very effective.
I will be doing blogs every week with tips to become more resilient to make your mind and your body stronger. May we become as strong as our ancestors were with all the knowledge that we have accumulated through the generations. This is an urgent need that we can accept and carry out.
Together we can become stronger
