My grandson asked his mother the other day what is that called when there is a parade and then you graduate to be a skeleton? I like the idea about graduating rather than dying. If we graduate then life must be school. With classes in changing our thoughts so we move through life with resilience, classes to improve relationships and there are classes to create beauty with art and music. If you look around it seems as if as a society we are trying to escape health class.
If your desire is to graduate with honors we must release excuses. Ernie Andrus is a veteran sailor who ran across America at 93 years old, it took him 2 years and 10 months but he did it. Nan Reisinger walked the Appalachian trail and finished the 2100 miles in 6 months at 71 years old. They will graduate with honors for being extraordinary in training their body.
We each have classes to complete but the older I get I realize that if you are healthy you will complete these classes easier and better. We have 122 days left in 2016. The pages of the calendar are flying off to become something we only remember. What can we do to make our grade an A? One thing I do know is we can make our brain healthier as we train for extraordinary, we can become happier if we are living with passion and purpose. Our brain will improve if we stretch out of our box and grow in an area that is new for us.
I plan on spending this month of making my plan for extraordinary living. Some of the things on the drawing board are: 1. distance walking now perhaps I won’t start with the Camino de Santiago, the way of St. James in Spain to remove the penalties of sin and I don’t want to commit to the 5-7 months it takes to walk the Appalachian trail or run across the country. But perhaps a walking marathon or a half marathon. A trained person can walk 20-30 miles in a day and a marathon is 26.2 miles. 2. Really focusing on becoming fluent in Italian because our brain loves learning languages. 3. Practice a musical instrument 4. Take ballroom dancing I was told at my conference that ballroom dancing is one of the best things you can do for that little little three pound organ that runs everything.
When I graduate to be a skeleton I have a desire for it to be with honors in joy, and love with a healthy body right up to graduation day.
Joy to you all and if you would like to join me just let me know!
